Output → a scoped questionMachard Holdings is a specialist South African advisory firm that works alongside clients to make sense of complex priorities, bring the right people together and turn good thinking into practical action.
We work with government, international development partners, education and training institutions, sector bodies and private-sector clients on assignments where both strategic judgement and disciplined implementation matter.
Good advisory work starts with listening carefully, understanding the context and working together towards a solution that can actually be implemented.
Start with the people involved, the context they are working in and what they need the assignment to achieve.
Output → a scoped questionBring together evidence, stakeholder insight and institutional knowledge to understand what matters and why.
Output → findings that holdDevelop practical strategies, frameworks and solutions with the people who will ultimately need to use them.
Output → a workable designStay close to implementation, helping teams coordinate, monitor progress, solve problems and maintain quality.
Output → results in placeA strategy that ignores the institutions meant to carry it does not survive contact with delivery. A skills plan disconnected from real economic demand trains people for work that is not there.
So the work deliberately crosses the usual boundaries: between strategy and skills, between evidence and decisions, between a plan and the people who must run it. That is what lets an assignment end in something that holds after we leave.
It is also why the firm keeps the distinction between strategy, skills systems, research and evidence, monitoring and evaluation, programme implementation, and JET and future skills. Each is a separate discipline, and collapsing them loses the join.
Machard Holdings is led by Dr Deborah Catherine Machard, whose work has consistently centred on helping organisations, teams and institutions navigate change, strengthen delivery and build practical skills and education solutions.
Her approach combines strategic thinking with a strong emphasis on relationships, collaboration and getting the work done.
Experience spans
The people already in the system usually know where it breaks. The assignment starts there.
Recommendations are only as good as what they rest on, and clients should be able to see what that is.
A framework nobody can operate is not a deliverable. Design with the people who will run it.
Advice that stops at the report leaves the hardest part undone. We stay close to implementation.
